The Economy and the World - A Spiritual Perspective

"No one can tell whether they are rich or poor by turning your books. It is heart that makes a person rich. One is rich by what one is, and not according to what we have." - Henry Ward Beecher

Thousands of years ago, the Mayan people, a highly developed civilization, he predicted that the world as we know it will end in 2012. Many people ask, with wide open eyes, awake and a little terrified, if this prediction comes to pass.

From a spiritual perspective there are no surprises. The term zero-sum game can help us understand what is happening and universal principle of association could help us find a solution.

in game theory and economic theory, zero-sum describes a situation in which parties gain or loss precisely balanced by losses or gains from the other participant (s). If the total gains of the participants are added, and total losses are subtracted, they will amount to zero. Zero-sum can be understood in a broader sense as constant sum where the benefits and losses for all players the same amount for the value of money, pride and dignity. In fact, cutting the cake is a zero-sum because taking a larger piece reduces the amount of cake available for others. Simply, if yours will not get mine. It seems that much of our economic struggles are driven by the mantra: "How can I get my ... and forget all the other ?"

...

So what happens if I live my life with zero-sum perspective? How easy would be willing to help you "get your" if you know you're getting yours, I'll lose out on me "getting my"? Zero-sum people interact with the fear-based place, living a life based on greed, selfishness, arrogance, and dishonesty exclusion. What we see happening in the world market is a result of people who live a zero-sum game - millions suffer from a few, class warfare and the war money. Increasing poverty and financial uncertainty, when the fear of the lower classes are now permeates the middle and upper middle classes around the world. A recession now looms large, affecting most every class, every family and every individual in some way, shape or form.

is guilty anyway?

spiritual qualities of love created this planet. Lack of love will surely be, if not destroy the planet, cause serious damage on many levels. We have witnessed this evil economically, environmentally, institutionally and in our relations.

Many ask: "Are we punished?" Interesting use of "passive voice" as if someone "to me." The truth is that no one does anything for us. We are doing it for themselves. daunting fears gripping the day we only exacerbate our current economic situation in zero-sum environment as long as people choose to act in a way off. anomaly is that the more we act towards others in a muted fashion, the more we all suffer.

greed and fear pervades the planet moves from hemisphere to hemisphere, country to country, state to state, city to city, town to town, family to family, individual to individual.

ego-inflating behavior based on greed and fear to create an environment that can not handle life in a healthy way. Our national health statistics indicate an increase in spikes dis-facilitates the mind, heart and body. Diseases such as cancer and depression are increasing at an astounding rate as diseases of the immune system - not surprising when you live in places with greed, anger and fear. greed, anger and more fear, more pain and suffering, it's a vicious circle

.

will spend more time blaming others, fighting for "my", and live in fear and anger, we're moving toward some flavor of 2012 deadline. As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and it us ."

Is there a solution?

pure and simple. Love is based connection.

What if each of us, from the heart as a place to take personal responsibility for problems in the world now faces? What if we take responsibility and choose to believe each of us can change the world for the better in some way, right here, right now in our own small way?

interconnectivity and the economy

"The economy is not a plan to build, but it's a plan for destruction. It is the economy that have led us to destruction. This is the heart of quality, it is the spiritual horizon that will change the world". - Sufi expression

In the Buddhist tradition, for example, there is a symbolic image known as Indra net - a net three-dimensional filling the entire space - a network of gold thread on a combination of each gem, which, at closer inspection, reveals a reflection of every other jewel in the infinite network and like a spark in a gem of a change, this is reflected in the sparkle of every other jewel. metaphor is - every one of us is deeply connected to the network of life and complex social relations stretching across the world

.

Looking down on our planet in 2008, there is a clear understanding that we are able to understand the intimate links that exist within our ecosystem, between our self and world, between our life and economy of developing countries, between our use of chemicals in everyday life and their impact on our oceans and streams between our zero-sum greed, wealth and luxury and poverty and other hardships.

Thai monk Bhikkhu said: "The entire cosmos is a cooperative ... when we understand the world of mutual, interdependent cooperative enterprises ... then we can build a noble environment. If our life is not based on this truth, then we will perish."

link in the economy reflected in the "spiritual capitalism" or "spiritual economy", where ethics plays an important role in defining the objectives and constraints. Spiritual capitalism and the economy will require: nonviolence, non-stealing, telling the truth, and focus on real life (eg, earning money honestly, without cheating or misleading advertising). The basic principle of spiritual capitalism focuses on the "stewards" of wealth, accumulating wealth ethical and not become attached to it, generously using wealth for the benefit of all. Below spiritual capitalism or the spiritual principle of economics is to economics and moral and spiritual life are not separate or mutually exclusive. There is no emphasis on "self-benefit ."

Why is there resistance to spiritual economy?

One of the reasons why so few are able to even understand the concept of relationship, or living off of interdependence, that are caught in a fear-based, emotional reactivity, which excludes them from accessing their frontal cortex (the rational thinking part brain), and stuck in their limbic (emotional) and amygdala (reptilian, reactive), the brain can not make "sense" the concept of spiritual economics. Remember, they are alive "zero-sum " game, based on a fear of being emotionally reactive. Another big reason is that many people are separated from their heart, their rights, and the Real Essential Self. Without spiritual understanding, understanding that comes from the practice of self-reflection, mindful awareness, meditation, and deeper understanding of important ethical, spiritual or heart approach makes no sense. Knowledge alone, without access to the wisdom of the heart, it will almost never lead to compassion, and thus, greed, hatred and ignorance will prevail and the cause and solution to, the suffering is never addressed. self-destructive beat goes on.

From a spiritual perspective, we are engaged in a huge wake up call. Over and above our economic crisis, we continue to lose our country to the ocean as the tide rises worldwide. Unknown and incurable diseases all the more baffling medical experts, an increasing number of people experiencing some form of abuse, and many continue to perish from hunger.

Oddly enough, although we have increased our ability to "connect " with each other via the Internet, apparently still unable to bridge the gap between all cultures, we lost our ability to "relate" to a deeper, spiritual level. It seems that we are using the Internet does not positively affect each other, but to extend his own ego to collect more for "me" in a more globalized form of a zero-sum game.

the final choice of

It is interesting that, in the weeks, months and years ahead, we will no doubt read many new books, discussions, white papers, theories, insights and positions on the creation of a "visionary of the new economic system." The sad truth is probably none of them will point to one way of approaching the economy - not based on "futurism", but the ideas taught in the East 2500 years ago, namely, the fundamental interconnectedness of people and nature. It is a challenge. It is a choice. Life is choices and we live and die for our choice. Buddhists and the Mayans knew something. Will we choose to learn from them or simply look for another way to reinvent a zero-sum approach to the economy and life? Through spiritual development through the adoption of the unity of human life through our spiritual growth we can evolve. Perhaps it requires the old paradigm to collapse and make way for new economic order, spiritual economy, which reflects the growing awareness of humanity. How do you feel ... and why?

So, some questions for self-reflection are:
